+Well, it might not be, but regardless...
+
+If you've ever been to Romania[^1], and in particular Bucharest, and in
+particular its rural parts[^2], then you've probably encountered a
+certain type of individual. I'm referring to the communist old man or
+woman who in the '90s has emigrated from her village in, say, Olt or
+Vaslui or Galați over to ye olde country's Capital, in search for a
+better life. And I could go on, along the lines of: and finding no such
+thing as a better life, but instead more of the same or worse, since
+"omul sfințește locul"[^3] and there's always worse to come around.
+
+These people, you see, are deeply frustrated by what they've had to
+endure since times have changed and [mommy][btcbase-1918637]
+[left the building][july-theses]. Life's shitty in the big city, where
+you hafta live in a [matchbox][hruscheba] instead of a proper house,
+where no one can be bothered to clean the shit from the streets, where
+you gotta be careful what you say to that mean motherfucker sitting at
+the corner, lest you [get it][decalog]. So you vent however you can,
+such as by yelling at people in the bus and pushing youngsters around,
+and if you're not even able to do that, then you're lucky if a stroke
+gets you.
+
+This very dramatic portrayal aside, one would expect that things have
+changed in the passing thirty years, and that the new generation,
+enlightened as they are by Cartoon Network, Pro Sieben, CNN and all
+those other pieces of Western culture they've ingurgitated as kids, are
+different, even *better* after some fashion -- that they've understood
+the sorrows and ills and so on and so forth of their forebears and that
+they're prepared to build something else, something better... after some
+fashion.
+
+Unfortunately -- and this will come as no surprise to the Romanians
+reading this -- this isn't the case. Au contraire, if you've been
+watching the local news then you're familiar with the so-called "frumoși
+și tineri", the Romanian millenial generation, the ones who will readily
+like, share, whine and #rezist, but who otherwise are quite incapable of
+thinking for themselves and instead prefer to judge by how the news
+[relates to them][shutdown], as portrayed by
+this-other-channel-instead-of-that-one -- in other words, like their
+forebears, only much worse.
+
+The young and the beautiful -- characteristics.

+[^1]: Although none of the traits I'm about to describe are in any way
+ specific to Romania or Romanians, they just denote a particular kind
+ of stupidity that manifests under certain circumstances which, for
+ the sake of brevity, I'm not going to detail here.
+
+[^2]: In fact the whole thing's just an overgrown village, but
+ whatever. Let's just say it holds a very few select places that at
+ least resemble parts of a town.
+
+[^3]: Let's try to translate this. Literally, it would mean "man
+ sanctifies the place", but the meaning is more along the lines of "man
+ [by his presence and deeds in a particular place] is a blessing
+ [or a curse, for said place]". In other words, given any place, it
+ has no qualities by itself, its joys and sorrows and ills and
+ virtues being entirely a function of those who populate it.
